Village Creek Golf Club was founded in 1969 and was originally constructed as 9 holes chiefly by the founding members of Jackson County. Two of the original holes are still in play as they were routed in 1969 with the original greens still in use. Three additional original greens are still utilized in the present 18 hole configuration. Several years after the original 9 holes was built, the membership elected to abandon the original layout and construct a new 9 hole course on higher ground on the same property. These 9 holes are still in play as they were built, but the orignal tifdward bermudagrass was replaced with a fairway tifdward grass that should be removed and replaced with a putting green quality tifdwarf bermudagrass to achieve good playing surfaces. By utilizing 5 of the original greens and the putting green which was part of the new 9 holes, they only needed to construct 3 new greens to have an 18 hole course. These greens were built with a loam soil which is not consistent with the other greens. It is good to be aware of these greens as they will not hold a shot as well as the other 15 greens. It is a fun golf course to play but a few of the new greens are a little quirky and accompanied by the differing grass on the greens the experience can be somewhat disappointing if you are a visitor expecting excellent putting surfaces. This is a good course for family golf as well as learning the game. Would highly recommend joining this private golf club for the value.
