Play too slow, greens too fast and some rough patches
Why invest in a GPS system that tracks speed of play and then let play lag? I rarely play any more because I am tired of twiddling my thumbs for 5 or 6 hours.
Carmel Mountain Ranch is great again.
We had played CMR a couple of years ago while on a vacation trip. It was an interesting enough layout but the greens were so slow and fuzzy as to make the entire experience very unenjoyable. There have been some changes, chief among them the greens. Perfect! The speed was great; the surfaces were smooth and the challenges were everywhere. And the layout is really a lot of fun, with short holes and long, lots of elevation changes and just a right amount of hazards and obstacles. There are some long drives between holes and some doubling back and forth to get around the housing development, but other than that it's a great layout and a lot of fun. I'm a convert and will be back. The only shortcoming is no range.
Fun Course to Play
A lot of rain a week ago, but greens were fantastic, Course wanders thru the neighberhood with distances between greens and tees, but interesting and fun to play.
Some neighborhood kids about 13 or 14 years old standing on the 9th tbox hitting balls whole bag of balls and I'm standing there waiting for the so I could take off I asked him what they were doing they looked at me like How Dare I ask I asked them to move on so I could play too I was a paying customer and of course they or somebody that lived in the neighborhood and they did not pay to play there there were just out hitting balls this was at 4:45 I called the clubhouse nobody there everybody was gone good thing my car didn't break down nobody would help me
Sand Bunkers
There was actually no real "sand" in the bunkers. It was more like infield diet at a baseball field.
difficult
This is course is difficult course from the whites (green) at Carmel Mountain. We played blues. I think they tried to make the course more playable but need to make it more playable.
Under construction
So much gravel everywhere. Fun course but too high a price for course conditions
No enough signs
Unfortunately there's a lot of construction work going on when I visited we found it a little confusing to navigate through the course because of the lack of signs and path bypass/detours. Other than that I think it is a very decent course; I'm definitely coming back hopefully when construction is completed.
Thank you.
First time!
Friendly staff, challenge to your accuracy, greens read true but you better watch speed.
Overall thoroughly enjoyed.
Good Course
This is a fairly well designed course with the exception of some missing signs to lead us to the next hole. Got lost a couple times and even the group in front of us had the same challenge. The greens were being aerated so a bit unfortunate when we found out after the fact. Overall, good course to practice your technical skills.
Ok for the money
Great rate @ $25, but the greens were punched and heavely sanded. Good change on hole 17
Vincent
Had a great time on this course. Every hole has a different challenge to over come.
The Power of 1!
The course is very good despite the current work project. Overall, all staff members were great, with the exception of the marshall on the front 9. Despite my group staying up with the group in front of us, who were behind, the marshall blamed me, multiple times, for being slow. Because of his actions and inability to be objective, he totally ruined the experience for me and caused an unsatisfactory rating for all whom he works with: The Power of 1!
Cart paths need work. Needs more signage.
I am from out of town and I played here for the first time today. I was told that I was going to be paired up with somebody but then they didn't show up so I ended up playing alone which was fine other than the fact that I got lost a couple of times because the Sun is to get from hole to Hole was not very good. A couple of bunkers were under construction and a couple of the Lakes were drained and under construction. Several of the cart path were dirt. Overall the course was in decent shape but I don't think I will play here again until they fix the cart paths comma the sand traps and the lakes..
I greens are good
Lots is being done to improve the course it is under constant work to improve cart paths and they are re doing the pond on the 17 th hole.
Greens are running great and was quick when we played probably 11+ , the only gripe I have is the old problem which never seems to improve and this is not any fault of the course but the players, fix your divots on the green, it's possible a lot of amateur golfers when they occasionally find the green in regulation are so excited they forget to repair their divots, anyway enough of that if you can deal with a little construction it's well worth the challenge, and by that is exactly what I mean, the various T Boxes gives the high handicapper an advantage, don't be afraid to play the whites if your handicap dictates, this course has more challenging holes than most, be smart and play your level.
Glad I got a deal
GolfNow had a Hot Deal for the course - cart included, and I wanted to see it. So, glad I didn't pay more than I did. It was worth what I paid. I came as a single, and hooked up with a two-some and a guy who is a member (hence the Country Club). He even said if he could do it all over, he wouldn't join this place. I guess new ownership has removed trees, and tried to make it more water friendly, but at what cost? Also, lots of blind shots and tricked up holes - glad he was along to let us know which way we were going. Plus the journey from some greens to the next tee were long enough to make you wonder where you were going. Even getting to #1 was not a straight shot. And NO - you cannot walk this course. Don't even think about it. I think they even require carts due to pace of play.
Great value and good course
Nice to see the course has been pretty well maintained inspite of the construction taking place there. Great value.
Will play again soon
Challenging, and so much fun!!
Very challenging course. I'm a 12 handicap and thought there were several holes where you need to use all the good shots in the bag. The course really makes you think and puts your course management skills to work. All in all, a great experience, super fun course, friendly staff and really nice amenities. For the golfer with a high handicap, it might get a little frustrating.
