Good course for a casual 9 hole
This is not going to be the greatest golf course you've ever come across but it is a fairly challenging heavily sloped long-ish 9 hole that'll challenge you a lot and especially challenge your course management skills. I'm at a beginner level and I haven't played many courses, but I always enjoy the vibe of this place.
Carts
The call center and website is totally misleading in regards to motorized golf carts. I called twice and was reassured having carts for my guests would be no problem. When arrived at course was informed only three motorized golf carts are available on the course. I had prepaid for another round assuming my guest would be able to play a second round to make 18. Three of my guests had physical limitations which made the 9 holes very demanding on their person and were not able to play another 9 holds.
We Will Not Be Back
This is a nine hole walking course. It is $10 to rent a pull cart. The course is hilly and it was exhausting just to get through the nine holes.
The course has zero amenities. ZERO!
There are no paved paths, no course markers, hole numbers, directions, distance markers, arrows, nothing.
They did have metal barrels which indicated a hole.
Pay a bit more and actually enjoy your round of golf elsewhere.
Thank you for the FOUR STAR review!
Is there anyone out there?
Ha ha. This course is barely used. Where is everyone.? Well the course is ALL mine for the taking. Come out and play this under played course. Yes it is a challenge to play. You will be tested on the choice of club to use. But that’s the fun in it. Course is super affordable.
Thank you fore the FIVE STAR review. Yes, Gleneagles can be wide open most weekdays. Be sure to pre-purchase tee time at www.gleneaglesgolfsf.com
Summer Is Here
I have been enjoy playing at Gleneagle during winter and spring of 2020-2021. It is a interest course. There is not much room for error and you need to to know how to play the course. The greens are always difficult.
It looks like the California Drought might start be effecting Glen Eagle. Lastround there was a lot dead patches of grass. I do not under stand why SF can water their soccer fields but not their golf courses.
We are under drought pressure again this year but if you want pure greens then you've come to the right place.
Great Challenge for the Purest
1st time playing here in over 8 years! Most challenging 9 you will ever play. No Cliche either
You will need all your clubs except the hybrid. It is important to club down with wind at your back and definitely club up hitting into the winds. Ground is hard as pavement and ball will carry further then you expect or desire. Be conservative at times. As ball will slide to the right slope and off the edge of holes 1-2 & 10-11. Greens are emaculately challenging. Humble play makes a stronger and enriched golfer.!
Thanks for the FIVE STAR review. You pretty much wrote the review better than we could.
Ryan-- your review is spot on for Gleneagles "no cliche either", especially the part of "you will need all your clubs...". Some people see nine hole courses and think, "oh, short par 3s". NOT.
Hit your driver if you dare and be ready to reach the green in two on some holes that look and feel like par 5s. So well designed, the course is sneaky long without you even knowing it--until you do. Finally, "humble play makes a stronger and enriched golfer." All true.
Worst Course Ever Played
This course it atrocious. Majority is dirt, everything is angled downhill, the wind is so strong in places it knocks my ball off the tee. You could hit far left fairway and it’ll roll down out of bounds to the right. It was so bad it was laughable.
However, the staff is extremely kind and friendly so this is no reflection on them, just that putting a golf course on the side of a dirt hill was probably a very poor place to put a golf course.
Two holes were cool. And that they found a way to make a 9-hole course into an 18 by having you tee off in different areas is clever.
Gleneagles is not for everyone. We do not water the fairways off the tee boxes so if you hit a dribbler you will be in the dirt/sand. It is a tough and challenging course. Not for the faint of heart.
challenging fun course
Gleneagles is a challenging fun course. .
It has many hilly long holes.
the scenery is wonderful and the holes are interesting.
Thanks for the great review phillylu24. We liked your description "hilly long holes..." and "fun". Gleneagles, it's golf like no other.
Thanks for the great review Barry4852613.
Worst course ever
The drunk bartender checks you in and he’s completely rude. They didn’t have carts available, yet course was empty! It’s located in the most seedy neighborhood I’ve ever seen. It would make a better landfill than a golf course, seriously pathetic. Wasted two hours of my life.
Not much we can say about this review other than they're not from around here.
Thank you for the FIVE STAR review!! We hope to see you again.
Not for the Faint of Heart....
This is Not an easy course! Hilly surroundings make for shot selection and accuracacy a most on many holes-you can hit the fairway, only to have it roll off to the edge. Mature trees line all fairways and can easily come into play. Fairway conditions are average at best, but the greens are almost perfectly good! The greens are what make this course, they are fast, smooth, and takes some course knowledge.
This is a true 9 hole golf course; 6 par 4's, 2 par 3's and 1 par 5. The hilly conditions make it play longer, and can be a tough walk(be prepared).
Pace of play has always been good, because the majority of players are regulars...newbies be warned, this is NOT for beginners...being able to hit straight is a MOST.
RON
Thank you for the great FOUR STAR review. You obviously know the game of golf as you accurately and without varnish explained what Gleneagles is all about. We know that we're a little scruffy but that's what makes this place such a surprise when you show up and just get whipsawed by the confines. Local tip: all putts break towards the Cow Palace--unless they don't.
Average golfer
The tee boxes are less than desirable, the fairways need help as well and the greens are like putting on Pool tables. Its amazing that I can come here and shoot a 54 with 24 putts and the next day go to an average 18 hole course and shoot an 85 with average conditions. Sorry but this is not the Hidden Jewal spoken about in the press.
Ok, just want to focus on this reviewer's description of our greens "are like putting on Pool tables."
Thank you very much.
Thanks for the great review, we appreciate your business.
Gleneagles is a "no frills" golf course. We don't have the resources of other taxpayer funded City golf course and are independently run and operated. That allows us to put most of our efforts into the greens, which I'm sure bedeviled this golfer.
