Great family course
Brought my wife and 3 year old to play with me on a Friday morning and had lots of fun. The pace of play might be slower at time because lots of families on the course but that's what it's for. Perfect course for beginners and families and is a good value for the area.
One of my new goto’s
Didn’t know we were playing the all par 3 course but really glad we did. Next tees were right next to the previous greens and it gave me a chance to work on 150-200 yard approaches which is the weakest part of my game. Will definitely be here often.
Don't waste your money
Course was overcrowded. Not in good condition. Had to stay on cart path only, I hate that. Booked a time to play with my son and they added more players to play with us. Never heard of that. Would not ever go there again.
Course was in great shape.
Nice course and friendly staff. Only thing I didn't like was cart path only.
Nice par 3
Good value for money. Tee boxes were beat up and tee markers were moved to odd locations to help fix but still playable and well worth the $20.
Nice Little Par 3 Course...With Great Views!
My wife and I play the Red Course at East Potomac about once or twice a month. The condition of the course is very dependent on the weather (if it rains, be ready for mud and lots of excess water due to lack of drainage). However, for $18 and a decent amount of availability in the DC area, it is hard to complain too much.
The first hole on the course is probably the toughest, coming in at a little over 200 yards with a fairly small green. The 2nd hold is pretty standard at 150, while the 3rd and 4th hole are both under 100 yards (and the 3rd much less sometimes). The 6th hole is fun certain times of year due to tree limbs that somewhat block the tee box. The 9th hole is pretty great with a view of the Washington Monument right in front of you.
Overall, if you want to hit a few balls in about 1-2 hours (depending on the time of day and weather, as nice weekends can get backed up like crazy), then this is an alright spot to check out.
Nice course with a view
Truly enjoyed 9 hole red course with my brothers. We are all newbies and had an amazing time.
4 stars for a fun little 9-hole executive course.
For people living in DC, the Red Course at East Potomac is one of the few places you can play after work on a weekday.
Good things about the course:
-The $14 walking price (no reason to ride) is really reasonable
-The greens are in pretty good shape for the traffic the course gets.
-The views (hitting towards the Washington Monument on the 9th hole is cool)
Bad things about the course:
-The pace is often absolutely dreadful. Not surprising since this draws lots of beginning golfers, but it sometimes takes 2 hours to get through a round.
-Conditions really depend on the time of year. Sometime everything looks great, but other times the fairways and greens can be in pretty awful shape from the traffic.
-The bunkers can be in horrific conditions at the first hint of rain.
Love Red Course
Issue regarding riding cart. Was not allowed to use riding cart and when questioned the staff said the cart path was not wide enough for cart. Questioned starter was told course was muddy . Staff gave different answers. Then person behind us showed up with a cart. A very respectful young man. Employee of course did not know the rule. Offered his cart to us.Two seniors but we declined. Everyone should have the same message.
All courses are cart-path only after it rains.
And twosomes are commonly paired up with other players.
Both of these complaints are about golf in general, not this course.
