Best Greens in the area!!
This course has to have the best greens in the SW Florida area. They roll true and fast with some interesting putts if you're above the hole. Also a little larger than I'm accustomed to.
The course is very well maintained, the staff is very friendly and pace of play was great.
Another benefit for those of us who don't always hit them as straight as we'd like to, is their wide fairways (some have to be 75 yards wide!). Water comes into play on several holes but you'll have to be pretty crooked to find some of the ponds.
Best Kept secret in the Ft. Myers area!
We were searching for a nice place to play and having played a number of "private courses" in the area we were hoping for a decent experience at Gateway. We were not only pleasantly surprised but will definitely have this course on our "must play" list next time we come to Ft. Myers/Naples. The staff was super friendly and when Golf Now screwed up the reservation and did not send confirmation to either us or the course, they accommodated us and slipped us in the rotation. This Tom Fazio course is a great track for both men and women. I highly recommend this as a place to play.
Well laid and forgiving for the high handicapper.
I enjoyed the course. I could be convinced to become a member there. Ivery much enjoyed our round.
Well maintained, fair course with a great location if your trying to get a round in after / before a flight. Staff was polite, not overly attentive.
Well designed, well maintained track that has some risk/reward shots but is not as challenging as most Fazio courses. The practice facilities are nice and well maintained. We were running a little late and the staff was able to accomadate us. While in the round we caught the foursome in front of us by the fifth hole and waited on almost every shot until we hollered at them to pick it up on the 16th hole. This was unfortunate as we had asked the staff to speak with them while we were making the turn and we never saw anyone address the pace of play, which was disapointing.
Great Value. Good course not a lot of people for late December
Had a great time playing this course will go back. Highly recommend.
Private club with attention to detail for the golfers!
Other than the lady bartender who was crabby, I had a great time at Gateway. For the price, I'd go back again. The layout was beautiful and yet enough of a challenge. Water was in play a lot but fairways were wide enough. I had never seen this before but they have crystals inside the pins so your laser range finder can hit it everytime-sweet! Thanks golfnow for allowing me to afford to play this game I love!
Good semi-private club
Located inside a gated community, Gateway is newly opened to the public. A Tom Fazio design, it features broad fairways with most of the challenges of the holes located as bunkers and contouring around the greens. Not particularly difficult with only holes 5 and 6 having forced carries. Back 9 is very scenic. All-in-all a typical southwest Florida course.
Fantastic
There is no other word to describe this course.FANTASTIC.The layout is a picture perfect, the chalenge keeps you on your toes until the end.
challenging course, challenging conditions
smaller greens than accustomed playing, but rolled very true. the day was difficult as it was a windy day, which put pressure on your short game, missing greens. generous fairways which was appreciated during the windy conditions. looking forward to the next visit.
Quirky but fun.
Course generally in pretty good shape but greens were not up to par. No pun intended. Course also had quite a few blind shots and quirky holes.
Great course, beautiful community, friendly staff.
This was my first time at Gateway.. We were welcomed as soon as we arrived at the bag drop and throughout the day. The layout was terrific, be prepared for some sand shots. I will play this course again.
Lots of sand!
Open fairways, beautiful lakes. Generally, the lakes do not come into play. However, beware of the sand! Very friendly staff!
Not What I Expected
I didn't rate this course higher because as a 'country club' I found maintenance lacking, hardly tournament ready as advertized; weeds on greens and fairways. Appeared to have multiple varieties of grass on some of the greens. Back 9 was in better shape than front
Nice layout
Fun course to play, good mix of holes, not too difficult but offers a challenge, excellent condition
Comparitively poor value
Gateway presents itself as a top tier golf course but Colonial, ten minutes away is far nicer and better value.
Good Course
Suitable course with nice layout for the rec golfer--played back tees and was a fun type of course. Chances to score well--nice pace of play--nice staff. Only minuses were the somewhat wet mushy fairways and wet heavy sand underneath top layer of dry sand---like there"s not enough drainage in traps or fairways as I golfed two days after a decent rain. Otherwise course and greens in good above average shape.
