About
Bay Point Golf Club's Nicklaus Course at Sheraton Bay Point Resort is the only Nicklaus Design course in Northwest Florida. The golf course was formerly Lagoon Legend, which had a reputation for being one of the Florida Panhandle's toughest layouts. In 2004, the golf course closed and underwent a major renovation by the Nicklaus Design team. It reopened a year later with rave reviews. The redesign included restructuring the tees, greens, and bunkers and also re-contouring the fairways. The scenic landscape of scrub oaks, towering pines, and saltwater marshes was carefully preserved though. The golf course maintained the challenging aspects of the original but infused a play-ability that makes it accessible to all skill levels. Also like the former course, the new Nicklaus design offers the same stunning views of St. Andrew's Bay. In the fall of 2018, the Nicklaus Course completed a greens conversion to Tif-Eagle Bermuda-grass greens to bring championship greens to a championship course. Bay Point Golf Club has won the Panama City News Herald's "Best of Bay" in 2016, 2017, and 2018. The Nicklaus Course has hosted US Open Local qualifiers and is a home course of the FSU Women's Golf Team and will host their Division 1 Invitational in February of 2020.

First 9 was too much carry over hazards. Back 9 was better. Greens were fair but challenging
It’s also very nice to meet other golfers. As much as I don’t mind golfing as a twosome, I think that a foursome helps increase the speed of the game.
Attracted by name but disappointed with quality
Greens were packed with tuffs of thicker grass and had a lot of debris. Fairways were hard and made it hard to know if a shot hit where to wanted would stop on fairway. All said, I learned that if a course is named after a famous person,it doesn’t mean that it’s kept up to any standard.
Greens
Rolled nicely but had a little leafy plant on the greens --not sure why it was there -- a problem if in your line
Needs Work
Challenging course due to water & sand, but condition of tee boxes, fairways were subpar for the price and the bar personnel were rude, yet on course staff were wonderfully helpful and personable.
Great Course
Course was in good shape. Getting a lot of Po in the greens. Greens are super-fast.
Nice course but the greens are shot
Baypoint used to have actual grass in the fairways, now it is dust. Their greens used to be great, now they have so much Poanna that most of the greens are totally un-puttable. No true lies anywhere, like putting on a mattress.
Gimme’s
Not rewarded when making shots to the greens what with obscure mounds or large mounds protecting the greens …add in rock hard greens and a flop shot is 20 feet off the green…lol
Greens are starting to show a need for some herbicide to stop the “little green patches” showing up to make a putt look like it’s a basketball being dribbled
Bring extra balls as there are some tee shots over water that will intimidate most low handicappers
Add in lightning fast greens you putt strength need no more than 1/4 of the way to the cup
Still laughing at the tee where you go over marsh in one way, only to cross back over in the opposite direction to get to the green
The putts that are close have to GIMME’S lol
Mediocre resort attractiveness.
Staff very disorganized upon arrival. No starter at first as well as no scorecard on cart or in pro shop. Course was okay but below most Nicklaus curse standsrds.
