So you think you can play golf?
Not as plush as the new, "private amenity" courses but very playable despite recent heavy rains. A century old design full of challenges. Blind approach shots, few level lies, elevation changes galore.
To be fair, the cart paths were pretty rough and the bunkers were a bit inconsistent. It's been a tough summer for both.
On the plus side, the greens were above and beyond anything you will see at your usual course. Moderate and consistent speed, rolled true, but certainly a great test of putting skill. False fronts with front pins, lots of multilevel and contoured greens, almost no level putts. Delightful! Course was set up for a college match following us and perhaps that made things a bit more interesting.
Learned to play here, and caddied here more than 60 years ago but had not been back for decades. I will most definitely return.
Very Wet but it Rained a lot the day before.
This course is a great course and most likely the toughest course in the state if not the South Shore. Most people love a good challenge but this course is the toughest challenge I have played in Mass.
Great Course and Staff
Was in Boston for a work trip and played here. The course was very nice and staff (golf and restaurant) were great. Very hilly course and tons of elevated greens - which I enjoy. Overall, great experience and will play again on the next trip to Boston. We had to walk due to rain the night before - which is no fault of the courses.
Play at least once
South Shore is a country club that appears to have been forced into a semi private status which is a benefit to non members. From the tips the course plays around 6300 yards but is sneaky long on quite a few holes because of the elevated greens. The defense of the course is its bunker and greens which when I played seems to be fast pace for most amateur. The bunkers were deep on quite a few holes with you peeking out of them. It was not my best round but I enjoyed the course tremendously along with the players who played with me.
Worth a play at least once.
Country Club Living
Everyone was nice to us. Course layout and conditions were great. Friends met us after for dinner and drinks. Wish the day never ended. Thank you South Shore staff.
just great shape
The Course is in great shape it plays as the toughest course on the south shore so if you shoot in the 90's you will most likely shot in the low 100's but if you do not like a challenge , just don't play golf.
Enjoy I do when I play here.
Best course on the south shore
Best value and course layout on the south shore. Very friendly and accommodating staff
Awesome course
I *really* enjoyed this course. We were vacationing in Nantasket about 15 minutes away and I snuck away for 18 here. Played with a member (Ken) who was super friendly and helpful.
Everything was in pristine condition. The course was interesting and difficult, but not unfair. The greens were tricky but true.
Loved it.
My only regret was they weren't available for my second round two days later.
Great shape slow round
Course is in great shape even with all the rain only 14 and 18 fairways had casual water. As it is most often thought the pace was of play was very slow. With a ranger only asking about it on 17 tee after 5 groups were backed up
Glacial pace
Course conditions are superb! Greens putt true and fast. Helps to have local knowledge as where to hit the ball on the greens as downhill putts are lightning.
Staff was attentive and very helpful..
I'll be back to play again.
Wonderful Experience
I had a 12:40 tee time booked for my wife and me. The was a men's league teeing off at noon so the person in the pro shop and the start suggested we tee off early.
We started at 11:50 and finished in 3 hours and 5 minutes. The conditions were great and every member of the staff we encountered was extremely friedly and helpful.
