Country Club of Pittsfield lives up to the hype and reputation for being one of the Berkshires Best.

I had the privilege to play the Country Club of Pittsfield on my trip home to Massachusetts. Although this is a private club, head golf pro Eric Mabee graciously allowed my father and i to check out a course. Having grown up in Pittsfield, I've been really wanting to play this course for a long time. I have played most courses in the Berkshires and I have to say, condition wise, this is one of the best courses. The fairways were in perfect condition and the greens rolled true. Living in Orlando Florida for the past six years, what I found most difficult was the steep changes in elevation. Up and down throughout the course, with few flat straight away holes, but after all, it is the Berkshires. Taking a cart is highly advised as this course will put you through an intense workout! Hole 11, I found to be the most difficult as your second shot to the green is straight up hill. (see pictured) Once you get to the top, the green provides one of the many breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and city of Pittsfield. Another great thing about The Country Club of Pittsfield is water comes in to play very rarely. The greens are very well protected by quite a few bunkers. The pro shop is stocked with everything you need and the staff is friendly and helpful. The clubhouse is enormous. Its a mansion that provides a wrap around deck, ideal for weddings. The two recommendations I would make would be to have GPS on board the carts, and a beverage cart offering cold beverages and snacks/sandwiches. I cannot recall any course in Berkshire County that currently has these amenities. It would provide a great advantage over other area courses to its current members and in recruiting new memberships. One unique thing, that got my attention was the fact the driving range has a full stand up, head to toe mirror. This way you can look at the side 90 view of your swing. I loved the driving range and the range balls were top quality. I enjoyed my time playing the Country Club of Pittsfield and I would recommend this course to beginners all the way up to low handicappers. It will challenge you and make you a better player by putting you in situations most of us don't practice. Check it out if you have the opportunity!
