Great course for the money
The greens were in great shape, my only complaint would be the mud bunkers. Wide open layout which is great for driver and 3 wood. a little flooding still hanging from all the rain we got this weekend.
Nice But……
I’ve always liked the layout. The greens were slow but rolling nice for winter.
With that being said our round yesterday was over 5 hours. This has happened more than once at this course. I’m not sure if they consistently overbook or what. They have ambassadors but they do nothing. On more than once our group has pointed out that there’s a multiple hole gap between the group ahead of us and they best group. I’ve yet seen an ambassador encourage faster pace of play to any group when pointed out.
SLOW play hurts this course. Otherwise I would play it more often.
Cold and Busy Tueaday
I was shocked how busy it was. It was very cold - about 42 degrees. We had to wait on every shot and get pushed from behind at the same time. I get it, it was the first good day to play with no rain in almost a week, but certainly didn't expect it to be that crowded and it was extremely cold.
Wet course
24+ hours after a heavy rain, course was still very wet. Fairways and roughs were wet and very muddy. Sand traps had deep standing water. Greens rolled slow, had multiple ball marks that were not repaired but earlier golfers. Play was very slow. The two-some behind us did not like waiting, so they were always on top of us or hitting into us. Not a memorable round for a usually nice experience.
Enjoyable
Wide open fairways and challenging greens. Greens were in great shape and difficult but fun.
Rain Soaked Course
Heavy rain the night before left most of the sand traps filled with water. Fairways and roughs in good condition. Greens held the approach shot, putted true, were medium speed. Heavy played slowed the speed of play, which is usually near 4 hours but was closer to 5 hours that day.
Brutal Pace
It wasn’t the first time for slow play here. This round thought was unreal. We teed off behind 2 foursomes that were together. By the third tee we were always on the box with the group ahead of us and the first foursome was just playing their second shots. No groups ahead of them. By hole 4, the two groups ahead of us were already an entire hole behind. We asked nicely on 10th tee to go through. They looked at us then proceeded to drive off. After we finished the 14th, we had already been there 4 1/2 hours (still 4 holes to play). We teed off on 15 and decided it was time leave. We drove passed both groups on 16th tee, not a group in front of them rest of the back 9.
NOT ONCE did a ranger (ambassador as they call them) ever come around to check on pace of play. Totally bad course management their part. At no time should you ever play a 5 hour plus round.
Fun course
Fairways and roughs in good condition. Most sand traps were hard packed. Greens held the approach shot, rolled true, were medium speed. Course is always busy, but play moves well.
Good Classic Muni - Walkable
Nothing blew me away as great about this course and no major complaints either. Seemed like a decent muni in fairly good shape, walkable, good price, friendly starter, pace of play just OK. From what I observed of the Charlotte area municipals like Sifford, Jones and this one, they do a pretty good job of offering some decent golf. I would play here again.
Good Municipal Course
In very good condition for a municipal course. Good value for money.
Awful pace of play
Took 2 and a half hours to play 7 holes. Pace of play was awful. Waited about 15 min in between each hole
Always challenging
Fairways and roughs were dry, needing water. Sand traps were hard packed, Greens held the approach shot, rolled true and were medium speed.
Good Municipal Course
Have played CT Myers several times, usually as it's the most reasonably priced course and has times available on weekends. Was paired with a friendly twosome but they were not very good plus had a way too long routine before each shot. So it was a 5-hour round. Also had an interesting check-in. Gave my name. He said what is the other name in the party, so I gave my wife's first name. He said, "Last name is X? I said, no first name is X. He said I need her last name! I said same as mine. He said I asked for the name of the two in your party! as if I was trying to pull something on him. He can't figure out a woman's first name is not a last name? Greens were slower than average but in good shape as was the course overall. Just wish we'd been with a twosome that played faster but that's always a crap shoot.
