Great layout!
I am a friend of a member here and he was able to get us on for a day. This is a beautiful layout and was really fun to play. The fairways are generally pretty tight and tree lined. The greens are generally elevated and slope from front to back. Missing the greens are very penal. As mentioned they are elevated and most have pretty severe mounding around them and are pretty well protected by deep bunkers. The front 9 generally plays back and forth pretty level, and you are generally able to see everything in front of you. The back 9 would have helped to have played before. There are more blind shots, and it was the more difficult of the 9s. The old school layout is awesome and the course was in good shape. The tees and fairways were great. The greens were in good shape and a perfect speed for amateur play. The rough must not have irrigation bc there was alot of it that was burnt out, and so in spots was very thin and in spots very thick and penal. The bunkers had plenty of sand in them but had not been raked since the last watering of the greens. The only place to miss the greens is short. If you miss long the green slopes steeply away from you. If you miss right or left you have a steep up and down over mounds and if the green runs away from you-forget it. You cant stop it. All in all it is an awesome layout and if you get the chance to get on and play it, then it is well worth it.
Impressed doesn't describe it...
I have played many great golf courses during my 50 year addiction to this game. Pebble Beach, Bay Hill, etc. I consider myself fortunate. I grew up near Boone, NC and had never played Mimosa Hills- only an hour down the road. Played many other Donald Ross courses. The aesthetic character of each hole and required shot making ability here is unparalleled. Every hole was magnificent. Conditions were perfect. Staff was amazing - can't imagine a better experience. 5 stars (plus).
Incredible course
A absolutely fantastic course. Well deserving of it's spot in the NC top 50 lists this course is frequently on. Immaculate conditions, challenging variety of holes including 4 different par 3s. Staff is incredible, practice area is kept in great shape. I am glad to be a member here.
Never ever again
Course was in ok shape, but the people there had to be the the worst in North Carolina. I would play a dog track before I would ever step foot on that course again. Staff was so rude and the players,on the course talked like you didn't belong on the course. Here is the reason golf is in decline. Courses like this.
Really enjoy playing here
Have played twice as a member of Western Piedmont Seniors group, so can't really comment on Pace of Play or Value. Wonderfully laid out course - typical D. Ross greens - elevated (either a lot on uphill holes or just a little bit on the level or downhill ones). Just enough that a run up shot is very difficult. Greens are really excellent, but require precision shots to hit and hold them, especially with longer irons. Beautiful scenery. Only comment is food service people are terrible. Twice there, tried to get a sandwich both times, never yet even been acknowledged. Not sure what their problem is, but based on my experience, don't bother. Seemed most of the people in there were members. Go for the golf, that is great.
Us members wouldn't want you back anyways. Go play a muni.
