Course needs some TLC
I thought the course conditions were pretty rough - lots of hard pan areas, greens and tees were in rough shape. The layout is challenging, and it seems like this could be a good course - maybe in the Summer when it gets some water and the grass gets growing.
Good, basic course
IW is often a course I will play when I am working on aspects of my game. Course is usually not crowded and provides ample challenge. In Feb, conditions are not great at most any course. The greens had recently been treated and the grass rather short. But it was a great value.
Fun Course
Was part of a foursome. Actually started before our tee time. Course and greens were in good shape. Liked the back 9 better than the front.Just the right amount of water to make it fun. Should be a rest room on the front nine. Will definitely be back. Have played all the Brown courses except the one on Hilton Head and they are all good value especially when I get a "hot deal".
Bring your A game
Not an easy course, not a hard course. One of the hardest in bluffton. But i love a challenge! Fast greens, green grass. Will play again, i want to master it
Disappointing
While the fees to play this course were low, there is a reason for that. Conditions on the course were not good. More so on the front none holes. The back nine was far better. No grass on the tee boxes and greens in need of repair on the front. It is a shame because the layout is nice and the course is challenging. The rough was more hardpan. People are great here but the course needs an investment.
Course needs a lot of TLC
Very challenging, greens and fairways need a lot of TLC. It is winter but other courses I have played in and around HHI are in much better condition. Got a really great price from GN which allows a lot of room for not being too critical. I suspect once spring and summer arrive course conditions will improve.
The course is not being maintained
The course is not being maintained in a proper fashion.
The fairways are in fair condition and the "first cut" of rough is nothing but "hard pan".
the cart paths are in poor condition.
Island West Golf Course
Great course, great people, challenging, why go anywhere else.
GREAT COURSE
The course was pretty challenging, it had pretty much everything one would be looking for in a golf course. I will definitely play this course again, and I would definitely recommend this course to my friends.
How about an ace?
Have played this course many times over the past dozen years or so. There are some challenging holes where unseen hazards come into play off the tee box. Conditions were as expected for this time of year--quite playable. The round culminated with my making a hole-in-one on hole # 17!
Island West- OK value
I've played here numerous times but never during the winter until today. The course just missed Hurricane Mattew which was a blessing. The course was OK, it wasn't in the best shape in the area. There's two ways you can look at it, if your a local then you play the course a lot and you like it. If your on a buddies golf trip it's a different story. There are lots of better options in the area but at the same time they are expensive. The staff really cares at Island west and the Marshalls are nice. The course I thought was in good shape for the winter and they definitely over seeded. The greens were a bit slow but not bad. The fairways where nice and the rough was thick. The course is a good course if you don't want to break your pocket on your next trip to Hilton Head Island.
Greens have taken a beating.
This has normally been an enjoyable course to play but the greens are in really bad shape; lots of bare patches and sand fill.
Hopefully time and maintenance will take care of the problem. Still worth the time for the money.
Needs work especially for being in Brown group
Course layout very good, wouldn't walk as some tees very far away.
Tees need work very rough. Fairways ok, sand traps terrible, some
just mud/clay some sand some very little sand. greens and overall course ranks behind Eagles Point, Hilton Head Lakes,Pinecrest and all around same price.
Clubhouse very nice and clean.
Good value
Holes were repetitive and course was not in top condition, although this could have been due to Hurricane Matthew that came through in October. Good value and enough challenge to be interesting.
Course needs some love...
Really interesting course to play, But tee boxes, fairways and greens are in bad shape... The staff is very friendly...
