Cedar Creek Municipal Golf Course
About
Cedar Creek is consistently rated one of the top muni courses in the USA. The hill country layout is challenging for all levels of play. Gold tees are available for scratch golfers. Some players feel that the narrow fairways allow the ball to roll to the center, but this is not evident to most players. Ride this one... it's real hard to walk. Because of it's popularity, the crowded course can play very slow. Go early or allow five hour rounds on really nice days. However, it's so pretty and great to play it's worth the time. If you can find a nice December day when the younger set is in school, that's the day to play Cedar Creek
Distance: Allow 30 minutes minimum from downtown. From I-10 going west, exit Loop 1604, then go west 3 miles to the Kyle Seale Pkwy. Turn right and drive 2 miles to the course. Watch real close for signs to clubhouse, which is on the left side of road up a long paved road.

Not bad at all
Greens were in great condition, they were seeding the course fairways and it was a little distracting on about 4 or 5 holes.
Wild hogs damaging course in some areas, shame
Not expected
We booked a tee time, 4:06 pm, wed afternoon, 10/17/2012. Friend of mine and I decided to choose Cedar Creek since it is close to my business. Once we arrived at Cedar Creek, we were greeted by Lionel. He explained to us that the back nine was closed, there were 2 high school golf teams practicing,etc...my first thought was< why was this information not available to me on golf.now. I let Lionel know that we were okay with playing the front nine twice. He told me it was impossible due to carts having to be back by 7. I quickly explained to him that my friend and I were going to play the front nine (best ball) and the back nine as single. I told him we have done it many times at different courses and always get 18 in under 3 hours. We do it all the time I said....Anyway, long story short, we planned on playing 18, left work early, only to find out back nine, CLOSED, many kids on course, not possible to play front nine twice. Once we started front nine, wow!...at every hole there were two mowers, mowing the tee boxes, in the way and we were having to wait for them to place back the tee box markers. They were nice guys and we spoke with them, they moved out of the way so we can tee off, etc...We tee'd off at 4 and done by 5:30 (played only front nine as single player instead of best ball), i was back at home by 6:30.....not happy!
Love the layout. Beautiful course.
So many elevation changes!!! A wonderful course for golfers who can hit it fairly straight. Very challenging if you miss the fairways. Beautiful views throughout. You would not guess it is a municipal golf course. A real gem!!!
Nice layout very challenging
Play was slow and some of the greens had bad areas but much better than I had seen in the past.
Nice Course
This course is kept in great shape. Wind can be challenging at times. Elevation changes galore.
Needs some work
I've been golfing at Cedar Creek for the last 4 years and every year the greens fees continue to rise with absolutely no obvious improvement to the course. In fact, this summer it seems the course has really started to go downhill as almost every single pond and riverbed has dried up and burn marks, weed and clover are starting to overrun the fairways and greens. The sand traps are like hitting off crushed cement and badly need refilling. The course is also riddled with dry mud pockets and dirt patches which need re-seeding. It seems as though they're relying on the course's past reputation and have foregone course upkeep. Don't get me wrong, the course is very challenging and if some money would be put into upkeep, it could likely be a premier course in San Antonio. Simply raising the rates without putting in the work is probably why 4 years ago I could never get a tee time and now I can pretty much get out whenever I want. The staff is cordial enough.
Cheap Deals
Cedar Creek has never been in comparable shape to most other courses in San Antonio.
The front 9 is fairly difficult compared to the back 9 with lots of undulation in the greens. Unfortunately, the greens and several areas on the fairways/rough are always dying out, bare, or some other non-playable condition.
Definitely not worth anything over $25 to play here as of right now. Look to the other city golf courses for a far superior deal, price and condition wise.
