What happened?
I used to love this course. But the last few times it keeps getting worse. There was actually a group of 5 in front of us. Greens were very rough. Fairways were ok. Just a bad day of golf in general if that is even possible. Seems the entire course is under construction. Some holes cut some not. Maybe next year.
Pretty good
The rough is too high for Amateur golfers. Punitive. Greens very bumpy. Need to be rolled. Fun layout.
Maywood 04-17-16
The course is excellent as far as layout. There are plenty sets of tees for anyone who plays the game. Whether you are a -2 player or working on breaking 100, this course will challenge you based off of the tee box you choose. The par 3's are not long but are riddled with water hazzards. This is a links style golf course and is EXCELLENT for any golfer.
Now on to course condition
The course had 0.5 inch rain fall the night before. That being said the course, surprisingly, played very well. The tee boxes were closely mown. The fairways are green with a few "area under repair" places. The rough was really long, however, it was being mown while I was playing. The greens need work. And quite a bit. I ton of flaws, dead spots, impression, black fungus, and bumps. Every green had the same issue. Some better than others. The bunkers were almost all under repair as they are installing a drainage system. The grounds keepers were spraying to rid the rough of dandelions (aka golf ball look a likes).
Keep in mind that this is early in the season and I am sure that they place will be amazing mid summer!
Now on to faculties.
The club has a driving range with 5 flags ranging from 50-230 yards. The total range is about 320 yards. They have a putting green with 6 flags and is about 40yards long and 10 yards wide. Plenty of space. The practice green is similar to the course greens in that the practice greens are full of the suttle breaks you can expect to see on the course. Unfortunately the us not a chipping/short game area. However you can chip on the practocd green, they have plenty of space and rough, fairway, and fringe all around the practice green.
maywood
Very nice clubhouse. Golf course is scenic and a fun play. however the greens are in below average shape even this early in the season. At 24 dollars its not a bad deal. Until the greens are improved and fairways grow in a bit better I wouldnt pay more.
Not good
If there was a minus 5 star rating it is what I would use. Course is in such bad shape. The far ways are nothing but hard dirt. No grass to speak of. If you miss the far way even by just a foot or two. Good luck finding your ball. Does not look like it has been mowed yet this year. All most all the bunkers have weed growing in them. The tee boxes are very uneven hard to find flat place to stand. The greens have been aerated. At least when you pay they could tell you that. Was my first and last time playing this course.
Wait to play
Course was in rough shape. Aeriated greens, course hadn't been cut at all, bunkers were unkept and unplayable. Fairways still brown and thin. I'd say wait a month or so to play. Probably a decent course when "In shape". Glad I got a Hot Deal and only spent $20 to play
Needs some work
Greens are average at best but improving. Sand traps and bunkers are located perfectly; however, are useless as they are filled mostly with dirt not sand and can't be played. Fairways are dormant but appear to be in excellent shape and will be ready for the New season.
Early season round
Course in as good a shape as can be expected for Feb. Obviously they are making upgrades, resurfa cd ed cart paths, fresh sand in some of bunkers, redoing drainage in some bunkers.
Well worth the great price I got on Golf Now.
Fun to play even in February
Had never played it before. Very interesting and challenging layout; bunkers need some work but overall in good shape for February other than a few green issues; staff very nice; clubhouse impressive. Overall, , we liked it!
One of my favorites
nice course, several challenging holes, some with water. Part of the course is through a subdiv, but homes are not close to fairways. Greens were a little rough earlier in the summer but looks like they have that pretty much under control now. Really enjoy coming here, one of my groups favorite places.
this course coming back
After conditioning problems during the summer I found a big improvement yesterday. They are obviously spending considerable time and money on getting the course into the shape it used to be .Fairways were excellent. Greens were coming back and very playable. Tees still rough, but could see where work was being done. Same for sand traps. The layout is great, with some open fairways for bombers and and other holes requiring target golf. All in all, a good experience that will only get better.
Maywood my favorite
Maywood my favorite course however the greens are in terrible shape right now tea boxes are in terrible shape a decent fairways oh it was OK to play with AR a hot deal I don't know that I would pay 40 bucks on the weekend
Not in Great Shape
Nice layout.
Scenic 16th hole.
The fairways were very well maintained. The greens had many dead spots, and the fringe was in very poor shape on a few holes.
The biggest critique was the length of the rough due to a lack of mowing. I lost about 3 balls and spent many minutes looking for others after shots that stayed in bounds.
I've played here dozens of times, but this was the first, and last time this year.
I will probably try again next season, but only if I get a great deal.
Would not pay full price for this quality. There are better options.
Rough
Went to play a practice round with my son for upcoming tournament. Spoke with "locals" and they told me that the greens were in good shape and the rough was "let to grow". They were not lying. The rough was crab grass and was tall. Greens were in good shape and fun to putt on. The tee boxes looked like they had not been mowed in some time. The fairways were in good shape.
The staff in the pro shop was friendly and helpful. First time playing this course, and would like to go back in the spring when the course is in better shape
Rick
I can't believe they charged me to play this course. Fairways were like concrete, grass off fairways not cut, many of the greens were dirt, tees were chewed up. I got this tee time for about $20 each and I'd say I should have only had to pay $5 each. I thought the conditions from the last time I played in the spring would have improved, but they did not. Unbelievable. Nice people though.
Greens
Greens was cut to short and they have lost them.
Golf Course Looked in Great Shape
This course looked beautiful when we drove up but certainly could have used some TLC! Greens and tee boxes were not in the best of shape. Getting to numerous tee boxes were somewhat difficult to approach, you walked far, down hill or up hill. We only played 5 holes before it started raining in which we asked for rain checks for the next day, because we purchased a Groupon they would only give us a voucher in the amount paid rather than playing with the Groupon the next day. So additional fees were charged to play the next day. We have encountered being rained out in the past on other courses with getting to play with the same Groupon another day, so don't know if that is up to the individual course or what the policy is. It was disappointing to be charged additional fees.
We enjoyed the day and for the most part, we feel the course was ok to play. Staff was very friendly, club house was nice and is located in a beautiful subdivision.
