Ranch Course at Genoa Lakes Golf Club is a Johnny Miller co-design that's a short drive from its sister Lakes Course. The two courses will never be mistaken for each other though. Ranch Course is a pumped up course that's big in almost every way. There are over 300 feet of elevation changes and in excess of 100 bunkers around the course.

Miller and his design partner John Harbottle III put together a course that plays as bold and showy as Las Vegas. Only it's located in Carson Valley, halfway in-between the more nature resort towns of Reno and Lake Tahoe.

The bunkering can be severe on Genoa Lakes' Ranch Course and the mountain scenery can be even more striking. Even though it's not far from the Lakes Course, the Ranch Course is definitely set up in its own world.

Miller gives golfers a fighting chance though and often the latitude to decide their own fate. Ranch Course at Genoa Lakes is full of risk-reward holes. Most notable might be No. 18. This 561-yard par 5 gives you not one, but two shots (minimum) where you must decide how much lake you want to try and cut.

Pre- big snow on the Ridge wind gusts

This links style course was delightful, despite gusts up to 40 mph!

Not a lot of thought design

No club or starter house sign, so you kind of wander around initially.
Good luck trying to find the first tee too..
None of the teas had visible markers so you have to walk up to individual ones to see which color they are. Speaking of color, they have blue and purple. Like you can distinguish between the two of those?
Very few yardage markers on the actual fairways.
Golf carts are all gas so forget trying to have a conversation with somebody in a different cart.
But the employees are great

Genoa Ranch course

Love this course, but they have out way yoo much water on the course. Very soggy fairways & spongy greens. Good thing for Hot Deals!

If you sand your greens, discount your round.

Course layout and fairways are great, This course requires you to be extremely accurate off the tee with the fescue surrounding the holes with strong desert wind. Finding your balls Unlikely, so if you can’t keep it in the fairway this is not the course for you. Other than that it was fun if you kept it in play shot selection was great got to use quite a bit of clubs and went for a lot of pins. Extremely disappointed in the bunkers they ruined my round, their bunkers are mud holes, and the greens are over sanded at the moment and roll Inconsistent and bumpier than heck. Could be a great course when the conditions are up to par but if you ask me you can manicure your greens a little better or charge less because I drove three hours for a champions course.

Good Course-Needs a little work

The ranch course is part of Genoa Lakes complex. It is a good course that has had some problems that are being worked on. It has a very good lay out that gives you plenty of challenge.

It is not any where near the Lakes course in beauty and design.
But fun to play.

Genoa Ranch Coursr

The course is a good value for the price through Golfnow. There are beat up fairways that are showing wear and tear. Greens are in ok shape and are fast.

Back Nine was Great!

I guess they took out 4-5 holes on the front nine and built houses. The new 4-5 holes are no where near as nice as the other holes. All of the original holes were great and that made up for the 4-5 bad holes.

Fun desert course. But with small hick up

First time here, friendly Staff. Driving range is included, that's a plus. First that I have noticed is that the tee box marking the color is not that obvious. The tee box and fair way is under good maintenance But to my surprise that the green is under par. It looks like the abused municipal course's green. The layout is good.

Overall: I enjoy and like the course , just hope they can make the greens better

a smokey day on the links

The practice facility is great, big putting green, need a few more holes, grass driving range that is very big. Over all the course is in ok shape. There is no sand in the bunkers so free relief is a must. Staying on the fairways is a a must, no looking for errant shots in the sage brush. Now to the greens. Haven't putted on greens that bumpy all summer. I pride myself on being a very good putter, but these greens made me look bad. They need to spend a lot time on their greens before I would come back.

This course has great length from green and yellow tee boxes.

Front nine requires work on both fairways and greens.
Back nine fairways ok. 3 greens on back nine require work .

Good potential but course needs work

Staff and practice area was very good as were the first several holes. Not sure of the problem, but there were large areas of the fairway that were dead and other burned areas on the greens. Also, a number of spots seemed to be over watered and actually muddy. Good layout but needs some TLC
