Cape May National Golf Club
About
Cape May National Golf Club, also known as simply the National, is a favorite among both New Jersey natives and visitors. The club has roots that date back to the 1800s when it was known as Cape May Country Club. The peacefully secluded golf course is nestled amidst mature woodlands, surrounding one of the largest private bird sanctuaries in New Jersey. The scenery is beautiful but don't let that distract you. There are plenty of challenges to keep you on your toes, including tree-lined fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and several water hazards. There are a few blind shots that make Cape May National Golf Club especially tricky if playing it for the first time. The classic design is a fair test but it's player-friendly enough for a wide range of skill levels.

great experience
This golf course has 17 great holes of golf, long, tight challenging position shots needed. Only hole 3 is weak. But only because I played the white tees. Par fours are long and difficult. Greens excellent. Par threes also quite demanding as greens are placed on pedestal and we'll trapped with sand or grass bunkers.Back nine exceptional. The final hole is the toughest hole on course. Not for the faint of heart. Only the par fives are reasonable. Pace of play great. Also tons of birds inhabit the course. Had to wait for a turtle to cross fifth fairway. Play after two pm, the rates are 50 dollars or less. Will play many times. Be st golf course south of Atlantic City.
Terrific
Course is a challenge for all levels of players. The greens are probably the best I have played in a long time on a public tract.
Great course is at its best!
As a former member the course was always beautiful, laid out in the salt marsh. New greens superintendent has done a spectacular job and cured a few problems that had persisted. Removed some trees and shrubs in key locations. #s 9 &10 are examples of this. If you like beauty, peace and quiet and sea birds and a great round of golf drop what you are doing and go to CMNGC!
Great time
Overall the course was a great experience. Pace of play was fast 4 hrs for a foursome and the course was in great condition. Was surprised to see some of the bad reviews after playing it got a great price and had absolutely no problems with staff or booking through golf now. Will defiantly play again.
Good shore track
Many challenging holes around/over water which created a scenic round. The course was in decent shape throughout from tee to green. The lady in the pro shop was not very professional and made us wait extremely long to be checked in. The starter really saved my impressions of the staff. He was great making sure we were familiar with some of the challenging holes as first time players. They didn't have a ranger out there moving thing along which created a long back nine.
Attitude
The course was advertised on Golfnow as 1 price and I received a confirmation from Golfnow & the course. Later that evening I received a cancellation notice from the course, even after they sent me a confirmation. When I challenged the pro shop I received nothing but ATTITUDE. I am sure you have plenty of golfers who play you good money to play this course but with that ATTITUDE I will never play another round at that course! BTW, I had a GREAT time playing Avalon!!!
First time played. Good layout
First time playing the course. Very challenging. Apparently a lot of tree/brush has been cleared around some of the water hazards. Definitely opens the course up and gives the player a better idea of landing areas. Overall I liked the course and would recommend it to other players.
Great course
Cape May National offers a great golf experience with a variety of scenic, natural, challenging holes.
Good for scratch or occasional player, a great track to play while at the beach. Condition was very good
from tee to green.
course was great
the coursewas in good shape for early summer..greens were smooth but a little firm..fairways were tight and firm but very playable..would go back again
Great time at a great course
Played with some buddies as we typically do on Sunday afternoon. Was gorgeous. We play all different courses down here but this one is still my favorite and you cant beat the value. The shape of the course was great and everything was lush. Believe it or not a lot of courses down here are not so it was nice to be in great conditions. Greens were just about healed from aeration and rolled very true as always. I played ok in the wind but most of all had a great time on a great golf course. I recommend playing the first par 3 from the blue tees if you are playing white tees and are under a 15 handicap. Cant wait to return!
Tremendous Golf Experience
Cape May National is probably the best course I've ever played for under $70. And it's even better than some of the courses I've paid more for as well. Greens were at the end of their aeration but still so true and playable. Very responsive greens, fair rough, well groomed tee boxes and a 4 hour pace. I was able to get in a groove and never had it broken by slow play. 34 front, 41 back, 75 total. What a day!
A little slow
The course was in very good shape despite a heavy down pour the previous evening. Carts only on the cart path may have slowed the round somewhat but waiting on a lot of tees is annoying. Never saw a ranger and the group in front of us would wait on the tee until the next group was almost putting out only hit 180 yard tee shots? Greens had been aerated recently and hadn't been cut that day because of the rain. Would play it again when it is lush as it is a nice layout. Need to work on speed of play or spacing of tee times it would be really tough if it was mid summer and you are standing around in 90+ heat and 90+ humidity.
Good track but greens knocked it down
Played in overcast and windy conditions so some of the holes were a bear. Layout was fun and fair but greens were freshly aerated and bouncy. Needed top-dressing and rolling. When greens are ready, course is 4 stars.
CMNGC
Not worth the money
Course condition was very poor
Several holes you had to put on greens of sand
Totally unacceptable, especially for the money
This course could be interesting
The greens were just aerated and NOT back filled with enough sand to provide a decent surface to putt on. The rough was uneven. I would think that when properly groomed it would play much better.
Fair @ $55
I remember when this was a resort course - it is now a locals course and maintained accordingly. Fairways have been widened to improve pace of play.
Tough!
One of my favorite local courses. It's always a tough track but when you play this links-style course on a day with wind gusts of up to 30-35 mph, you better hold on to your hat and have your game in order. The wind was actually affecting putts! Course is in early season shape -- greens not quite there yet -- but after this past winter, no complaints.
CMN
Course was in good condition (wish the wind would die down) and enjoyed this first time round. Rate I received was very fair. I will definitely play again. Enjoyed a course that seemed a bit like the ones in Myrtle Beach. (more ponds than the average NJ course)
Challenging Golf Course
We had a really great time, and the Cape May National staff are very nice. I can't wait till my next round there.
Personally, I think poor ratings due to aeration is unfair. Every course has to aerate, yes even Augusta
