Cape May National Golf Club
About
Cape May National Golf Club, also known as simply the National, is a favorite among both New Jersey natives and visitors. The club has roots that date back to the 1800s when it was known as Cape May Country Club. The peacefully secluded golf course is nestled amidst mature woodlands, surrounding one of the largest private bird sanctuaries in New Jersey. The scenery is beautiful but don't let that distract you. There are plenty of challenges to keep you on your toes, including tree-lined fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and several water hazards. There are a few blind shots that make Cape May National Golf Club especially tricky if playing it for the first time. The classic design is a fair test but it's player-friendly enough for a wide range of skill levels.

Beautiful course but somewhat slow play and unimpressive clubhouse
Cape May National is best course in Cape May. For the $95 greens fee it is not necessarily a great value relative to other courses in the NY/NJ area. Course was in very good condition and the chipping/putting area is top notch. The allow golfers to walk course even on Holidays and the course was backed up (note we were a twosome in cart but playing very leisurely).
The clubhouse and snack bar does not measure up to the greens fees.
Amazing experience
Was pleasantly surprised to find the course in amazing condition, and completely devoid of people, on a beautiful early summer afternoon. Tees, fairways, greens, rough - all in pristine condition.
Course is beautifully designed and pleasant to walk through. Many wonderful birds and mammals. Extremely friendly staff. I was expecting nothing close to this for $21. I would play here often if I didn't live 35 miles away. Highly recommended.
Great course, lots of fun
Just played last week. I have to say the course is in amazing shape. Always a great layout. Best value around. Friendly staff. Feels like home when youre here. Will be playing again soon.
Not busy and windy
Enjoyed round, play was fast, conditions were excellent.
Fun, challenging course for a reasonable price
Love this course, always in good shape. Greens where a lil slow but understandable for this time of the year having been punched recently but still a lot of fun!!
difficult course w/ challenging situations and fast greens.
Cape May Nat'l is set on a nature preserve and has a distinctly remote feeling to it. The layout is very nice but the course has some rather intimidating situations for you to encounter. The day we played winds (20 mph+) were also a factor and added to the challenging experience. Definately should be played more than once as on subsequent visits you'll have a better plan on managing some of the holes. Slightly pricey but well worth the admission and if you can book a golfnow hot deal you'll save some $$ to cover for some of the balls you'll lose. To date , best course I've played in the Jersey shore area.
Challenging layout, inexplicable shortcomings
Interesting and challenging layout; fairways, tees, and greens in good condition. Sand traps a disgrace. The sand is heavily laced with rocks. We saw one rake over 18 holes. The course gets very little play. This is primarily because of the $95 greens fee.
Gorgeous course, incredibly slow.
This course is very pretty, and very challenging - especially if you play the back tees. Every whole is scenic and unique (except hole #9, it seems like an afterthought). This is not a bombers course, it requires placement on a lot of holes. Local knowledge is a huge benefit on this course, because you need to know where to hit your shots.
The pace of play was ridiculously slow. The front 9 took more than 3 hours to play, and an hour into the back 9 we were through 2 holes, and switched sides because it was starting to get dark. They needed a martial really bad. I've played all 18 before, so I know how nice the course is, but the pace of play really ruined our last round there.
lots of wildlife. a must play in south jersey.
dont even try to play from the blues unless you are a 12 handicapper or better, very tough.
Tough and a little weird... but great value mid-week.
I played Cape May for the first time in August because I had a hot rate deal that was too good to pass up. The course plays long because you can't just hit driver everywhere, and it's also tight almost the whole way around. Some of the holes are also a little gimmicky. That being said, to play a course at 7,000 the quality of this would easily be worth what I paid for it and then some. Our round took 5 hours and we finished #18 in the dark because the pace of play was very slow. Not sure if that's a trend or not. I'll be back when the price is right.
Course drains well after rain
Course drains well. We finished playing the 2nd hole when a deluge of rain came over that easily dropped an inch of rain in 15 minutes. As it was downpouring, I couldn't help but think that there was absolutely no way that we would be able to continue the round. The green that we were standing near was completely under water. The rain stopped and we teed off on the next hole 30 minutes after the rain started and proceeded to complete the round with nothing more than a few puddles to get around. All in all, the course was fantastic and I look forward to someday playing the course during better conditions. The course and the par 3s are a bit longer than what I am used to, but the rain contributed to not getting that extra few yards of roll.
Cape May National
Beautiful course that will keep you thinking all day. I definitely recommend purchasing a yardage book if you are not familiar with the course. No homes on the entire complex and an ton of memorable holes. Very fun day of golf. Only complaint was thepace of play. Almost a 5 hour round with no ranger seen the entire round
