Killer greens!
We just had a gully washer rain, so that was a bit of a challenge with the bunkers... but other than that, great conditions. Amazed by how fast and true the greens rolled. Can't wait to play there again!
Larkhaven 8-1-17
Played here with an online deal, and the value is good for the course. The turf is nice and grown in. The bunkers are in good shape, but the sand is a little thin in some areas. The layout is nice with some short holes, and nice undulation. The greens are in ok shape, I know they put in new greens a few years ago, but they were looking a little brown in spots. It looks like they verticut not too long ago. The ball rolled well though, no complaints about how they played. Firm and fast. They have a nice grill. No driving range.
Mediocre course with subpar fairways, no driving range and horrible staff
Played this course with 3 buddies because the original course had just been aerated and didn't want to play on sanded greens. Upon arriving to the course, we went in the pro shop to pay and asked for some range balls. The guy behind the counter laughed at us saying "we sold the driving range 25 years ago to the HOA for more housing development." That was fine, no big deal. It was our first time so we had no idea and went to the putting green instead. Get to the first tee box, that's also shared with the tee box for #10 and the condition was alright, grass was a little overgrown and there were some bare spots from improper care and repair of divots. The first hole plays 270 from the tips so I hit a 3 wood to lay up. Turns out I got a hold of it and hit a nice draw and slightly left of the green - only problem is if you do this, you're sitting on the 2nd tee box which is 50 feet from the first green. On the entire course the rough is crab grass that hasn't been taken care of at all. For those that don't know, crab grass over takes other types of grass, which was the case on all of the holes. The rough had started to blend into the fairway and it felt like hitting tee shots onto a parking deck. The greens were in decent on some holes but some clearly had burn marks and dead grass due to a lack of watering. The greens were worse than the fairway. I hit a 150 pitching wedge to within 5 feet of the cup and the ball bounced 20 feet in the air and ended up 40 feet away. Looked like I hit the cart path in the middle of the green. Fast forward to making the turn, we went inside to get some lunch and more beer, that took maybe 5 minutes for all 4 of us to get in and out. As we're walking out, the woman starter/staff member walks into the lunch area and asks us "Can you guys please pick up the pace? The group in front of you is already on hole #11 and we have two groups waiting to tee off." Meanwhile, the group that had been behind us the entire front 9 was walking in. How can we be taking too much time getting more beer and food to eat in the cart when the group behind us is just walking into the bar area? Gets better. Knocked my tee shot close to 300 yards down the fairway and hit my second shot. Right after I hit my second shot, BOTH starters ride up and ask us to please pick up the pace. Are you kidding me? We had been on the hole no more than 4 minutes at that point and could see that the group in front of us (that the woman in the cart originally noted in the bar area while we made the turn) was still in the fairway on #11. Absolutely unacceptable. I have NEVER been to a golf course where I was hurried so much through the turn after spending money in their pathetic excuse for a club house. We caught the group in front of us , which was a group of 2, by the 12th hole and had to wait for every shot we hit the rest of the day. Needless to say, this course is mediocre at best in all regards. The condition of the course was below average, there is no driving range, and the staff is the worst I have ever experienced. I will not be going back and for what I paid, I feel like we got robbed. If you want a course that plays like you're playing in your backyard, go for it. I will be taking my business elsewhere and will not be going back to this course.
Late July 2017
Fairly crowded course with a tight layout makes for groups piling up. Rough tee boxes, but fairways and greens are decent. Some greens are domed and very challenging. Short course even from the blues, take advantage of the par fives, some will require irons or woods from the tee box because of doglegs. No driving range, chipping green and separate putting green.
Great Value
The course was great. I don't know if we got a special weekday rate but we only paid $26 dollars to play a course that was easily a $40-$50 dollar value. Greens were true and soft and the fairways were well managed. It was busy the day we played so the pace of play was slightly slow but not annoying. People were nice and friendly and the hot dog at the clubhouse was delicious. Would highly recommend trying this one if your passing through.
Worth the drive
Not too challenging but still a good test for the average golfer. Fairways and greens in excellent shape and eminently walkable
good learning course , friendly staff
There must be a law against people bring music to play out on the course however the threesome in front of me had there stereo blasting away ... each shot I had to wait till the were far enough not to hear it. A little disappointed that the yardage isn't exact maybe a gps system would work much better.
Great greens.
Although there was a good amount of rain the week before, the greens were in good shape. The only issue we had was pace of play.
Not maintained
I'm not sure if they're getting ready for a US Open, but they haven't mowed in weeks. To make matters worse, pace of play was beyond slow, despite having a bunch of open tee times online. Not totally anyone's fault, I think it's because of the layout creating so many blind shots and dog legs. I don't want to go back, ever.
Best all around
I took a friend from Boston to play here and he was thrilled with all aspects of his experience. It opened my eyes to this course as I have played it for years. One of the real jewels of Charlotte at a price that is hard to beat.
Nice course overall, not so nice value
I enjoyed my round here even on a busy holiday. Pace of play was great considering how many people were out on the course. This was my first time playing here. I didn't love the course layout personally. The back nine was much better. The front nine was riddled holes I didn't care much for. Conditions were ok but I believe the rate that day was $42 which was ridiculous. This course in it's current condition should be $30. However I got a great deal so all is well. Staff was friendly.
Great Value
My son and I played with 2 other friends. We had a great time. Only comments are 1) The 1st cut of rough had a lot of bare spots, or was extremely thick. We lost a couple of balls that looked to be playable from the tee, but absolutely could not find. Solution... keep it in the short grass!! 2) The hole placement on a couple of greens was interesting, such as at the top of a bell-shaped hill... almost impossible to make. Those were minor things... overall one of the best values in Charlotte!
My wife and I enjoyed ourselves, and the course was in good condition. We were paired up with a Father and his son, and they could not have been more nice.
Greens look great, but suck the fun out of the round.
We were warned at tee off that the greens were fast and hard. Every green hit into played like a slab of granite. There is no stopping the ball on the green if it lands there. Really too bad, it could be a fun course but 3-4 putts per hole was quite disheartening. They need to invest more money into flattening the tee boxes and better fairway irrigation. Staff was really nice and cordial. No knocks on them.
5 HR Round
The greens were good but they were very firm and difficult to hold. There were bare spots in the fairways. The course needs attention. It was a hot day so we bought some beverages from the snack bar but the boss would not let us put the bag of ice in our cooler so the ice melted and soaked the back of our golf bags.
Course needs improvement
I have played here many times. Usually fairways are good, but I was surprised with the poor condition. Grass was spotty and unwanted grass plentiful. Greens were in very good shape. Check in went ok, but grounds staff was all over the course while playing. Had to wait for grounds crew several times, but that is my usual experience at this course.
Hot Deal price was ok, so the value was ok. I am sure I will play again if the price is right.
